  • Potential for damage is greater when left onsite, for example smoke damaged contents.
  • Heavily mould-contaminated items.
  • To minimize final cleaning after construction and painting work.
  • To minimize products used in homes and businesses (product sensitivity issues).

Packout

Packout is a disaster restoration term which refers to the process of packing the contents of a home or building, moving them to a warehouse area for cleaning, repacking and storing them until the damaged building is restored and the customer is ready for delivery of contents. In some cases it will be necessary to packout all rooms, in other cases only one or more rooms will be packed.

At ServiceMaster of Muskoka and Parry Sound Disaster Restoration, we understand that disasters are traumatic enough and will work with both yourself and your insurance company to find the most effective way of protecting your belongings from further damage and mitigating the damage already done as thoroughly and expediently as possible. Your contents are treated with the utmost care, individually inventoried and packed, or cared for by an industry professional.

Before the crew begins packout procedures, the customer should gather any items that they will need in the immediate future. If any of the items need to be cleaned, these will be taken to the shop for immediately cleaning. Following is a list of items the customer should take with them:

  • Money and checkbooks
  • Medication
  • Toiletries
  • Insurance paperwork
  • Telephone and address books
  • Keys
  • Mail
  • Passport
  • Tax documents
  • School books/supplies
  • Calendar

Because of liability and safety concerns, we may request the assistance of industry professionals, or may not packout the following items:

  • Essential items the customer may need (see list above).
  • High value items (e.g. valuable collectibles, art, musical instruments, electronic equipment, antiques, cameras or video equipment, oriental rugs of high value) or ANY item which has a high sentimental value to the insured.
  • Fire arms (e.g. guns, powder, shells, etc.)
  • Contraband (e.g. drugs or any other illegal substance).
  • Trash (items of little or no value such as paper bags, empty jars – with the exception of canning jars, etc.).
  • Items completely destroyed (items of value too damaged for cleaning, unless wanted by the customer).
  • Flammable Items (e.g. cleaning solutions, matches, batteries, finger nail polish, paints, aerosol cans, etc.).
  • Food (open containers).
